Whims - 16Sep26
00:00:00 Chris Golden: Hello everyone to another episode of Whims, it's Chris, although I would imagine it'll always be me. Um, I don't know. Maybe I'll have a guest host take over when I'm away. Although that kind of defeats the purpose of a personal podcast. Anyhow, here I am. You probably can tell there's a little bit of difference in how I'm approaching this episode, comparative to that last episode. The introductory one, that one was scripted. It wasn't apparent. It certainly was. I was far more prepared. I was reading text that I had written and popped into notepad, and I wanted to ensure that I hit all of the notes. I also came to understand that when it comes to podcasting, I'm much better free wheeling and dealing and riffing. But I also, you know, tried to do a little bit different, didn't maybe work or maybe it did, I don't know. Let me know if this is sort of the way and the approach you would prefer I take moving forward. Regardless. Thank you so much for tuning in. Again, thank you so much to all of those who know me, who are supporting me, or maybe being nice about it and supporting me. Um, I truly appreciate it. Um, I shared in a number of different discord servers that I'm in that the consummate ideator always creating very rarely seen things through guy that I am had launched whims. My fourth podcast, though conceivably only two that are active, this one in the Canucks one. And generally speaking, um, you know, people were supportive. Uh, they appreciated the approach that I'm going to take and hopefully I can keep you as a listener engaged on a daily, somewhat basis. But regardless, what are we going to talk about? Well, it's Wednesday, it's middle of the week. I launched on a Tuesday. Here we are on Wednesday, and I wanted to actually share some personal stories as to the reaction that I had to the podcast here in my household. The first was my wife. My wife, bless her, she she has been very supportive of all of the different creative ventures that I have spun up and spun down and forgotten about over the course of the years. Um, that's nice dear. It's not something she necessarily says, but you know, she approaches it as okay, that's cool. Um, sometimes she realistically asks, do you believe you have enough time and energy to to make this happen? When I've thought, oh, hey, I'm going to launch a podcast talking about the Whitecaps on a regular basis, or, hey, I'm going to launch this podcast and have two others, and I'm going to work and I'm going to be a father who's actively coaching his daughter and being everywhere at once. Again, she asks the smart questions. Are you certain you have enough time to make that happen? But with whims. First of all, when she heard the title, she's like, seriously? You started a podcast on a whim and you called it whims. My goodness. Which there you have it. Why is this called Whims? It was because I couldn't think of a better title for a show that I was spinning up on a whim. And you're going to find, as we sort of progress, I do a lot of different things on whims. She also gave me a pat on the back, a smile and somewhat of an eye roll. Um, and that's not to suggest she's not supportive. She truly is. She just finds it funny. Her personality is not to get out there. Not to suggest mine is like I would describe myself as introverted. I'm not extroverted in in the common sense. But my role in sort of my day job requires me to flip a switch, be sort of gregarious, be that extroverted person. And so I have a tendency to flip said switch when I'm at home in front of a microphone. Now meet me in person. It takes a while before I warm up. And as a result, much more extroverted in that sense. But the reaction from my daughter was the best. I'm like, daddy started a new podcast. She's like, cool, "what's a podcast?" And so I had to explain to her, it's kind of like a radio show. And she's like, oh, okay. So you have like video and you're on YouTube and I'm like, no, there's, there's no video. You're your Daddy has a voice for radio. Um, and as I've often self described myself a face for radio two, she's like, oh, okay. So, so you're not on YouTube. Well, what do you talk about? I'm like, I don't know, whatever sort of comes to mind. Again, I started this on a whim. She followed it up with the next question, what's a whim?" And this is the cool thing about my daughter. She'll ask questions and look for clarification on words she doesn't quite understand, and that's awesome. The problem is that sometimes I don't know the answer. And so I try to describe a whim as, you know, something you did, but you didn't necessarily plan for something unexpected. You maybe made a decision and just did something for the sake of doing it. He's like, oh, okay. And, you know, you see this reflection in this absorption of the information that you've shared and you wonder to yourself, or at least I did, um, did that land right? Like, is she going to use this word that daddy just shared and apply it sensibly in school or amongst her peers? Or is it just a matter of huh, "that's cool Daddy." And off she goes to whatever is interested in her. But I did ask her. I'm like, hey, did you want to join daddy on an upcoming episode? We can talk about Minecraft. She's actually really into Minecraft. Um, we could talk about, you know, K-Pop Demon Hunters. And that was an outright no, she loves K-Pop Demon Hunters, but we're going to talk about that. At least not with her Daddy. And she's like, well, I don't know what to talk about. I'm like, oh, well, neither do I. And yet here I am recording another episode of whims. Sharing with you our listeners reaction here that I had at home. And so again, maybe down the road, my daughter will join me. She has expressed interest in being creative. Her and a friend apparently want to start up their own YouTube channel. So maybe down the road that'll be a thing. And then she can come and talk to you and me and all of us about the YouTube channel. She started up with a friend if and when it were to happen. Still not entirely sure that'll be a thing. So that wraps up another five or so minutes. In fact, this is a little bit longer than that.
00:06:28 Chris Golden: Uh, we'll be back again. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after again, a regular basis daily being a suggestion and all. But, uh, thank you for tuning in.
